16 SA STYLE SPRING 2O18 / SASTYLE #PEOPLE / SUPERNOVA THE LILY NOVA EFFECT From Magill to Milan, Adelaide’s Lily Nova proves a girl from the ‘burbs can make it in the big smoke. She’s unassuming, unnervingly shy and impeccably polite – that’s what we’ve been told by the modelling agents, designers and hangers on. Even modelling veteran Kate Moss attests to Lily Nova’s gentle and kind persona; Brigette Mitchell, owner of Adelaide’s Finesse Models and the scout responsible for finding the 20 year-old through the crowds at Adelaide Fashion Festival back in 2013, tells a tale of a time when Lily was working on a shoot with Kate. As she tentatively scooted past the modelling icon she heard her name, when she quizzically turned Kate responded with, “yes Lily, we’re talking about you – and how nice you are”. These days of course she’s accustomed to working alongside industry greats – she’s the face of Miu Miu and has walked in more than seven Gucci shows – but she remains unfazed, and unchanged by the flurry of excitement that surrounds her. We met the alabaster beauty in Adelaide (she was home for a week before jetting off to New York for Fashion Week) to chat about her rise to stardom. Surrounded by a symphony (no, really) and dressed in couture from Paolo Sebastian’s autumn/winter 2018/19 collection, The Nutcracker, she didn’t disappoint.
