“My dress was made with 40 metres of French bridal tulle – I felt like I was floating on a cloud!” The Theme We had a black tie dress theme and a wedding theme to match. We wanted a classic, elegant and romantic feel, which was brought together by the beautiful St Sava Serbian Orthodox Church where we were married, and the Mortlock Chamber at the State Library of South Australia where we held our reception. The Planning We are very organised people, so there was very little stress at all! We had the bridal party, church, venue, wedding dress, bridesmaid’s dresses and wedding cars all sorted within two months. We had an excel spreadsheet where we recorded all the things that needed to be done and outlined the costs – although one thing we didn’t do was set a budget! I bought a Kikki K wedding planner, which was helpful and was used to store all quotes. The Sentimental Ceremony My family is Serbian Orthodox and the St Sava Serbian Orthodox Church has been an important part of my family for generations – my grandparents and parents were married there, my brother and I were christened there, and more recently Thomas was christened there. I had always dreamt of my wedding being in the church, actually I never imagined it being anywhere else! It’s a good thing I was upfront with Tom about this from the beginning! The Styling Our wedding colours were simple and elegant with lots of black, white and gold – we thought these colours were understated and striking at the same time, and tied in with our black tie theme and location. We carried this elegant theme through to the reception where we had a long main table, with guests seated on round tables. We hired fairy lights, which we strung across the balconies, and candles, all from Lush Lighting. Our table centrepieces, created by Tynte Flowers, were tall, cylindrical vases filled with hydrangeas and twisted willow and green leaves. The flowers were fake as hydrangeas are out of season in winter, but they looked great and worked perfectly! The Venue The moment we walked into the Mortlock Chamber we knew this was going to be our reception venue. It is a stunning room in a beautiful, historic building and we loved the grand setting. We had never been to an event there either so it was something new to us, and to most of our guests.
