www.southaustralianstyle.com 77 HOTSPOT #LADYBURRA Lady Burra Brewhouse PHOTOGRAPHY KIRSTY BURNS For a relatively new venue, this west-end gem has a sordid history – we are, of course, referring to its namesake. Lady Burra was a young girl from outback South Australia who fell in love and married an American brewer – but when her husband suddenly died she was accused of his murder. The mysterious, love-fuelled tale provided a foundation for this inner-city establishment, from which it has quickly built a loyal following of food and beer- loving fans. Paying homage to Lady Burra’s late husband (the brewer) the inner city microbrewery, which is the only one of its kind in the CBD, offers an impressive selection of beer on tap. The core range focuses on four styles – pilsner, pale ale, red ale and India pale ale – which are all natural and preservative-free. Not a beer drinker? Not to worry, there's a long list of other options on offer too. However, the team do love their beer so you can expect to find some brewing elements in your cocktails too. A must-try is the Madame Currie – with notes of floral and citrus courtesy of housemade citra hops syrup straight from the brewery, this beautiful blend Adelaide’s only CBD-based microbrewery offers honest food that’s full of heart and flavour, and premium handcrafted beers to wash it down. of white rum, grapefruit and lime is sure to be your new after-five favourite. Not to be outdone, the kitchen puts its own spin on the beer-inspired menu, using Lady Burra's boutique brews in marinades and sauces – we can't go past the delicious pale ale marinated chicken! Head chefs Rosa and Gaspar hail from Portugal, so the menu has a distinct Portuguese flair – think paella, tapas and sumptuous homemade Portuguese tarts. Of course, there’s the usual pub grub too, like tasty burgers and wood-fired pizzas. Pairing your meal with the perfect brew is a big part of the Lady Burra experience. Alongside the beers on offer you can find the Boilermakers List – a menu dedicated to the beautiful pairing between craft beer and beer’s older brother, single malt whiskey. This carefully curated menu pairs a select few of Lady Burra’s craft beers with a nip of top-shelf single malt whiskey and a morsel of food to complement and contrast like- flavours. Like their pilsner, Glenmorangie 10-year-old and Scottish shortbread. Or their small-batch stout, a nip of Ardbeg 10-year-old served with some of Haigh’s finest dark milk chocolate. These clever menus complement the architecturally-savvy interior of this inner-city space. Open ceilings and exposed steel staircases suggest an industrial-vibe, as do the gleaming stainless steel fermenters that can be viewed through floor-to-ceiling windows. The addition of stripped-back timber and the wafts of home cooking from the open kitchen adds warmth and intimacy. Lady Burra is the total package. Hearty home cooked food with a Portuguese twist will satisfy the foodies, while beer lovers will appreciate the handcrafted brews on tap. The comfy booth seating nestled alongside a sky-high hand-painted mural of the elusive Lady Burra is the perfect place to enjoy a bite and a brew, and the venue's brand new outdoor deck will be a summer favourite. 08 8231 8928 ladyburrabrewhouse.com.au Mention SA Style to pick up two of Lady Burra’s signature cocktails for the price of one.
